Michael Blackwell
Executive Managing Director
Michael Blackwell serves as Executive Managing Director for Banyan Residential. Michael has more than 21 years of experience in the multifamily real estate business and has been directly involved in the development and construction of nearly 8,000 apartment homes, with aggregate construction values exceeding $2.1 billion across all product types in the mid-Atlantic, southeast, and southwestern US.
Prior to joining Baynan in 2026, Michael served as a key regional partner for Mill Creek Residential and Crescent Communities, helping to establish and stabilize regional offices in metro Washington, DC, central Florida, and the major Texas markets. Michael began his real estate career in metro Washington D.C. with JPI, where he was involved in complex urban developments in the Capitol Riverfront (DC) and northern Virginia, including high-rise, mixed-use, and long-term ground lease projects.
Michael holds an MBA from the Cox School of Business at Southern Methodist University in Dallas and a Bachelor of Arts from Hampden-Sydney College, where he previously served on the Virginia college’s Board of Trustees. In addition to past involvement with NMHC, Michael is active in the North Texas chapter of the Urban Land Institute (ULI) and serves on boards for both Downtown Dallas Inc (DDI) and the The Real Estate Council (TREC), where recent leadership roles have included Public Policy Chair, PAC Chair, and Executive Committee member. In the community, Michael serves on the board of the White Rock Lake Foundation and the Vestry for St Bart’s Anglican Church. A native North Carolinian with deep Texas roots, Michael lives in Dallas with his wife Mindy and their two children.
